🏭 Council Weighs GE Demolition
City council has officially acknowledged GE Vernova’s plan to demolish most of the historic Park Street complex while keeping a few key buildings. The 1891 site remains on the city’s heritage register, but council says it won’t pursue full designation. They have until Nov. 7 to make a final call.
🎓 Tom Mulcair Named Ashley Fellow
Trent University has announced former NDP leader Tom Mulcair as its 2025–26 Ashley Fellow. He’ll visit campus twice this academic year, starting Oct. 28–31, to host workshops, lectures, and a public talk at Champlain College. His residency will explore Canadian leadership, public life, and federalism.
🦃 City Thanksgiving Hours
Most City of Peterborough services take a break Monday for Thanksgiving. City Hall, libraries, arenas, and Social Services will be closed, but transit runs on a holiday schedule, parking is free, and Riverview Park & Zoo stays open from 8:30 a.m. to dusk. The Peterborough Museum and Archives is open all weekend with extended hours and a new Carnivorous Dinosaurs exhibit.
THE BORO BUSINESS
🏥 Community Health Centre Opens: The Peterborough Community Health Centre has officially opened inside Peterborough Square, marking a major step toward accessible, inclusive care.
