QUICK BITS

🚴 Bonnerworth Park Bash Moves to Saturday

The official opening for Bonnerworth Park’s new upgrades has been bumped to Saturday at 1 p.m. after rain delayed the finishing touches. The City’s making it a weekend celebration, with bike demos on Saturday, skateboard and pickleball sessions on Sunday, and try-it pickleball and a pop-up bike event on Monday. Free shuttles will run from City Hall Saturday and Sunday, 12:30–4:30 p.m., and yes- there’ll be snacks.

🎓 Trent Hosts 2025 Fall Open House Friday

Trent University is rolling out the green carpet this Friday for its 2025 Fall Open House at the Peterborough campus, running from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Visitors can tour classrooms, residences, and labs, meet faculty and students, and even apply on the spot.

Highlights include chances to win free first-year tuition, explore new programs like Software Engineering Co-op and Forensic Anthropology, and get a feel for campus life. Bonus: 40% off Trent merch and residence bingo prizes.

🏭 No Heritage Status for Most GE Buildings

Peterborough city council has voted not to extend heritage protection to more of the former General Electric plant, allowing GE Vernova to move forward with demolishing 25 of the 33 buildings on the Park Street property. Eight buildings selected by the company will be preserved.

The decision follows recommendations from the city’s heritage advisers, but council chose to move ahead without further designations. GE Vernova has until November 7 to finalize plans for the historic 50-acre site.
