QUICK BITS
📝 Trent Faculty Deal Reached
Trent University and the faculty association (TUFA) have struck a tentative agreement on a new contract, ending weeks of negotiations. TUFA represents over 330 faculty members across the university. Both sides will now take the deal back to their groups for a vote, with ratification meetings expected soon.
🏉 Fleming Rugby Stars Shine
Two players from the Fleming Phoenix Women’s Rugby Sevens team just earned big provincial shoutouts. Ashley Smith was named an OCAA League All-Star, and first-year player Shelby Hubert made the All-Rookie Team. Both played every game this season Smith scored twice, and Hubert’s tackling made her a standout on the field.
🏒 Petes Split Northern Road Trip
The Petes grabbed an overtime win in Sault Ste. Marie on Friday before falling to the Sudbury Wolves on Sunday. Aiden Young tied Friday’s game late, and Matthew Soto sealed it in OT for a 4–3 win. Adam Novotny led the charge with a goal and an assist, while rookie Gerry DiCunzolo scored his first OHL goal in the 8–2 loss to Sudbury.
THE BORO BUSINESS
🥦 Chub & Nikki Hang Up the Aprons: Chub and Nikki announced on Facebook that they’re officially retiring from their beloved No Frills. After decades with Loblaws - Chub started at just 15 - the duo is saying goodbye to the aisles and checkout lanes that have been part of PTBO life for years. They thanked their hardworking team, loyal customers, and family (including son Ethan, who helped keep the store running). Now, Chub’s trading grocery lists for grandkid duties with his new “bosses,” Ellie and Emmie.
🧵 Petals & Thread Hits the Big Leagues : Peterborough’s own Petals & Thread just got a major spotlight moment one of their custom embroidered jackets showed up at the World Series. Taylor Frick, girlfriend of Blue Jays pitcher Trey Yesavage, wore the piece during Game One and it even landed in Sports Illustrated. Founder Shannon Bryant called the moment “surreal,” saying it proves how far storytelling through embroidery can go.
